Where im from if I began to start makin money id at most get $100k a year, cause there are no big jobs here and I got personal problems, so atm imma just play games
Well I mean. One would argue that obsessing over expensive material possessions is equally a waste of life, but. I personally think worth is what you make of it.
I see what you’re saying, but it does depend on the reason you play video games. Yes, it’s true that you shouldn’t become so invested in video games that you forget what the real world has to offer. The same sentiment applies to just about every other hobby. Take fishing, for instance. If I spend so much time fishing and am also fairly confident that I won’t make it a career path, then I detract time from bettering myself in other areas. Don’t waste your time to the point where you aren’t improving in some way. Still make time to better yourself intellectually and physically. Still make time for family. Still make time to earn good money. On this, I think there should be no contention.
However, to say that no man should play video games at all I think to be too extreme a stance. Who made you the gatekeeper of hobbies? If you’re using video games as an escape from reality, then I agree that’s not okay. (Just like I think no drug usage of any kind is acceptable, because it’s solely used as an escape.) Using video games to get away from a reality that you do not like is dangerous because it allows you to push off facing said reality. That’s what can make them so addictive. But if it’s just a hobby, I don’t see the issue. What’s the difference between playing RDR2, for instance, and watching a movie? In both cases, you’re simply watching a story. What difference does the medium make? If you make the case for no video games, does that not mean you should also make the case for no movies? And what about playing online with some friends on Siege? What’s so different between that and going to a bar with your friends and picking up basically no real world skill in either scenario?
The problem that a guy like you has is that you assume that every time someone plays a video game, it must be rooted in some desire to abandon the real world for the virtual world. Well, no, that’s not true. Contrary to popular belief, you can actually play video games in a healthy way. I know I do. I don’t really play that often. Maybe an hour to an hour and a half per day for a few days per week. That’s far less time than the average person spends on social media (which I don’t use at all, unless you count watching YouTube). In fact, I’d argue that social media is far more detrimental than video games, albeit for different reasons than it being a time suck. In addition to playing video games a relatively small amount of the time, I still have time for my morning workout, my job, my family, my dogs, and all of my other hobbies. Granted, this is just personal experience, so it doesn’t really count for much other than the assurance that a healthy relationship with video games is more than possible. You just have to be careful you’re not playing it for the wrong reasons. Otherwise, you really can become addicted.
“Why be playing these games when you can just go and do them in real life” I went straight to the comments but nobody said anything.. Imma say it for you. “I quit COD, I’ll just go do it in real life.”
